When to Travel

The jungle in Peru

The jungle is a tropical region where clothing must be light weight; but long trousers and long-sleeved cotton clothes are essential in the jungle to protect against insects.

The warm, wet and rainy climate with temperatures above 35 °C (95 ºF) in the low jungle during the months of April to October make this the best time to visit. Waterproof boots, hats, sunglasses and sunscreen are also necessary, together with insect repellant, binoculars, a torch and bottled water or a canteen.

The high jungle has a temperate subtropical climate with a lot of rain between November and March and sunny days between April and October. The clothes already mentioned can also be worn here.

Occasional chilly periods or "surazos" can occur between May and August, when the temperature drops to 8 ºC (46 ºF).
