When to Travel

Nov to Feb/March are the months when the temperature is at its most pleasant.  In the pre-monsoon build up during May and June, it can get particularly hot.

The end of May to September is the monsoon season, when wet conditions bring a welcome respite from the temperatures of the previous two months. Torrential downpours followed by sunny spells are a feature of this time of year.

The Andaman & Nicobar Islands

Even though the Andaman Islands are virtually on South East Asia’s doorstep they are part of India’s territory and have their own unique character. This is partly due to the islands intriguing colonial history as well as the cultural diversity of the people sharing the land. Indians co exist with various tribal groups (Jarawa, Sentinalese, Onge, Andamanese, & Karen are just some of them main ethnic groups) although not always in complete harmony and in differing levels of assimilation within society. Some tribes such as the Sentinalese shun all contact with outsiders to this day and are only found in remote areas. Many islands are therefore protected and off limits to foreign nationals and even most Indians except for medical personnel or researchers.

In addition to being fascinating from an anthropological perspective the Andaman & Nicobar Islands are also a haven of biodiversity and home to ancient rainforests teeming with rare endemic fauna & flora, deserted beaches, coral reefs, mangrove creeks, and limestone caves.  Much of the islands still remain virtually unexplored and unknown to the outside world. The whole pace of life is different here and you will come to learn the true meaning of “Andaman time”.
