Taste of India with Ranthambore

Taste of India with Ranthambore

A perfect introduction to India’s popular ‘Golden Triangle’, with the added bonus of charming Samode and Ranthambore National Park. Start your journey in Delhi’s old and new areas. Travel on to Agra and the breath-taking Taj Mahal. Drive on to the ‘Pink City’ of Jaipur, its opulent City Palace and the imposing hilltop fortress at nearby Amber. Enjoy a stay in the traditional village of Samode – and an experience of timeless rural India – before your final destination of the wildlife haven of Ranthambore National Park.

All road travel is in comfortable minibuses or mid-sized coaches. Your journey is escorted by both a Western tour leader, based on a minimum of seven travellers, and a local English-speaking guide in each location. Groups are never more than 16 travellers in size.

Tour grading – Easy to moderate

This journey is suitable for travellers with an average level of fitness and independent mobility. The tour involves plenty of walking and stair climbing, sometimes over uneven surfaces and in the heat. There are also rides on rickshaws, jeeps, and walking tours up to 3 to 4 km (2 to 2.5 miles). You need to be able to board and disembark vehicles independently. The longest road journey is approximately 5 hours in duration.

While accommodation is of three to four star standard, this is not ‘sanitised’ travel; by day you will walk through markets and villages, meet local people, and sample local food.

Travellers continuing to Delhi may wish to take an express train from Sawaii Madhopur (near Ranthambore) as this is a faster option than road travel.

When to Travel

October to March are the months when the temperature is at its most pleasant. In the pre- monsoon build up during May and June, it can get particularly hot. June to September is the monsoon season, when wet conditions bring a welcome respite from the temperatures of the previous two months. Torrential downpours followed by sunny spells are a feature of this time of year.

The best time to travel to the northern states of Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh is between November and March when it is moderately cooler, rainfall is minimal and the temperatures range between 10 and 30 oC (50 and 86 oF). At the higher altitudes, the mornings and evenings are bitterly cold with temperatures in January falling to freezing levels. Woollen sweaters and a warm jacket, gloves and a woollen hat are a must. The days are generally bright and clear and it is warm enough to sit out in short sleeves.
